In Brighton, Colorado, Officer Nick Struck was the third person to arrive on the scene of a serious car accident. Six people were ejected from the car on impact. It was a family with four children, and the father was unfortunately killed.
“When you hear that there are children involved, I”ll tell you what…you get that pit in your stomach,” Struck said. “The first thing we do when we get on the scene is try, if we can, to comfort anybody. Of course we”re going to go to the kids.”
Struck was handed a two-year-old girl at the scene, and he began to sing to her.
The mother and one of the children were airlifted to local hospitals, while the other three children, including this little girl, were taken by ambulance. All six people in the car had been ejected from the SUV. According to investigators, no one involved was properly restrained in the vehicle.
